Alexandre Klinke is a composer and visual artist from Sao Paulo, Brazil, based in Vancouver. With background as a jazz and classical guitarist, he became involved with electronic music composition in the year 2008. Since then he’s been creating, recording and performing music as a solo artist, while also working as a composer and sound designer for film and multimedia. His compositions merge conventional instrumentation with field recordings, sound-making objects and electronic devices.
His works in film and multimedia installation explore the perceptual and synesthetic effects of the relationship between sound and vision, using both analog (magnetic tape, super 8 film, VHS) and digital technologies. The juxtaposition of the warm and noisy characteristics of analog equipment with the hi-fi crispness and endless possibilities of the digital medium results in a variety of textures that are evocative of different times (present/past), spaces (internal/external) and places.
